Town of Herkimer Announcements:

Note: Town Park at 154 Pine Grove Road to be closed from the early spring of 2024 through potentially the end of June 2024 due to construction at the Park; dependent on weather.

What is happening at the Park: In 2024 the Town has contracted with Central Paving, Inc. of Frankfort to enhance the Park's features and attractions. The enhancements will include the installation of an eight-foot-wide, paved exercise trail along the perimeter of the Park. The trail will feature rest areas along the half mile route of the trail. Additionally, the enhancements will also include the installation of lighting for both the tennis and basketball courts, a storage building, landscaping and improvements in the fencing.

Additionally, the Town has partnered with the National Fitness Campaign to install both a Fitness and Studio Court. The Fitness Court is a world-class outdoor circuit training center integrated into a sleek 38'x38' square that can accommodate up to 28 people at once. With 118 elements, thousands of exercises, and a digitally-supported community engagement platform, the Fitness Court brings innovation to every exercise and state of the art weather resistant fitness apparatus and equipment to all while accessing personalized fitness programs on mobile applications through cell phones by scanning a QR code that is available on the fitness court's digital wall or via instruction by a certified fitness coach. And it's all free.

Adjacent to the Fitness Court will be the Studio Court. It is available for all groups to use for outdoor space group exercises and activities. Scheduling reserved times for use with the Town Park's Superintendent is highly recommended.

Town Park Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening: Scheduled for Saturday July 13 with details to follow. It is anticipated the facilities will be open to the public for use prior to the grand opening construction schedule pending.

The 2 ball fields at Herkimer Town Park are used from spring through fall by several Herkimer athletic teams for sports such as softball and soccer. There are tennis and basketball courts available, as well.

During the summer, there is a supervised daily program available for children that offers many activities such as board games, Wii video game contests, arts & crafts, a zoo mobile, the bounce castle, a tie-dye day and a make your own sundae day. A free summer lunch program is also offered daily.

There are several pieces of playground equipment for the kids to enjoy. In 2008, the Town received a grant from Herkimer County Healthnet, Inc. to buy additional playground apparatus for the purpose of promoting the health and safety of the children playing in the park. The Town of Herkimer has also received a grant to upgrade both ball fields and improve parking options at the park.

There is a small pavilion with four picnic tables and there are bathroom facilities available.
